About
In 1990, the Multiculture Celebration and Education Association (MECA), evolved from the hispanic Awareness Council (formed in 1986), a non-profit group, focused on raising the Hispanic population's involvement in school, health, and continuing education issues. The group, recognizing a need to bring the diverse populations of the community together to educate all on local, state and national issues, became the MECA. Awareness efforts include sponsoring cultural activities and programs to both the public and the diverse populations to include the Cheney, Goddard and Clearwater school districts. In addition, it implemented Hispanic Awareness month in the Wichita USD 259 school system.
